Facts about Calgary HandiBus
Our Fleet:
- 135 vehicles
- approximately 40,000 passenger trips per month
- every year, nearly 7 million kilometres travelled
- 13 vehicles are dedicated to the transportation of pre-school children with disabilities, aged 6 and under, who are attending developmental programs
- our specially-adapted vehicles have an average lifespan of up to 10 years
- 100% of vehicle purchases and improvements are as a result of donations from the community
- operation of the fleet is funded by The City of Calgary, Calgary Transit, and passenger fares
Our Customers:
- serving 19,000 customers registered with Access Calgary
- Calgarians with permanent or temporary physical and/or developmental disabilities who are unable to use regular transit with safety and dignity
- a dedicated preschool service for approximately 150 children with physical and/or developmental disabilities
Our Service:
- highly personalized, door-to-door, shared ride service
- 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
- regular fare is $1.95 per one way trip (tickets sold by operators in books of 10 tickets for $19.50, and at all Calgary Transit ticket vendors eg: Calgary Coop, Safeways, 7-11, etc.)
- within the City Limits of Calgary, with attention paid to hospitals, health clinics, special needs education centres, nursing homes, group homes, entertainment centres and major shopping malls
